Was Selene planning to marry Logan? That was the only explanation for her question.
But Logan had just tried to win me back a mere two hours ago. Then, I recalled his earlier question: "What
if something bad or an accident happens to me? Will you regret it?"
Was this his grand plan to make me regret my decision? If so, it was both hopeless and utterly foolish. Feigning ignorance, I tilted my head at Selene. "Huh?"
She straightened her posture and looked me in the eye. "I want to be with Logan and marry him."
I smiled faintly, my expression unreadable. "Really? Congratulations, then."
"But... I'm worried his parents won't accept my baby," she said, her voice tinged with unease.noveldrama
I tapped my fingers lightly on the table, not offering any response. After all, this had nothing to do with me, and there was nothing I could say to help her.
"Elaine," she called out in a more serious tone, "I know your place within the Mercer family. Mr. and Mrs. Mercer treat you like their daughter. That's why..." She hesitated before continuing, "I need your help." It wasn't hard to guess what she wanted from me. Still, I didn't even let her finish before rejecting her outright. "No."
Selene's face twisted in frustration. "Why not? Is it because you're mad that I came between you and Logan?"
At least she wasn't entirely shameless. I didn't deny it. "Kinda."
While Selene wasn't the root of the problem, she was certainly the catalyst for my shattered relationship with Logan. It was only human to feel resentment toward her. Still, I couldn't entirely hate her-after all, she had revealed Logan's true colors to me before I fell deeper into the relationship.
"Do you really think it's my fault?" Selene asked, her tone turning mocking. "Even without me, you and Logan were bound to break up." She spoke as though she knew the intricacies of my relationship better than I did.
I chuckled softly, prétending to be clueless. "Oh? Really?"
Selene leaned forward, meeting my gaze. "You and Logan were together for ten years, but there was no real love between you-just a familial bond. The only reason you two dated was because his parents wanted it. You were both just fulfilling their wishes.'
Her words struck a chord. She wasn't entirely wrong.
I had often wondered why Logan cheated with Selene or why I hadn't felt unbearable pain when I left him. The truth was, our relationship lacked passion. We were too familiar with each other-there was no spark, no fire.
"If Logan truly loved you for who you are and not out of familiarity, he wouldn't have cheated on you with me," Selene continued, her voice cutting. "I was the spark he was looking for."
I smiled faintly, unfazed by her harsh words. "Is that how you justify yourself as the homewrecker?" "No," she replied quickly, shaking her head. "I was never the homewrecker. Logan came after me, not 16:10

I didn't know who initiated their affair, nor did I care. Still, I understood why she was desperate to portray herself as innocent.
"So," I said casually, "you think that just because you didn't destroy my relationship with Logan, you deserve my help?"
"I'm pleading for your help," Selene replied, her tone suddenly humble.
I glanced at her, taking in her delicate, charming features. She was undeniably beautiful, but I knew Tessa well enough to know that she wouldn't like Selene.
