She winced in pain, eyes wide, clutching her face as she confronted the woman in front of her, "Joy, did you seriously just slap me?"

"Of course, I did, you idiot!"

Joy glared down at her, her eyes cold and piercing. "Who told you it was okay to come back? Who said you could sneak back without talking to me, and even try to mess with Selena?"

Yasmine and Joy's relationship was all about using each other. Yasmine never really saw Joy as a true friend, so she didn't bother telling her about her plans this time.

"I don't owe you any explanations."

Yasmine got back on her feet, shooting daggers at Joy with her eyes. She felt she had finally found her footing and didn't need to lean on Joy anymore.

After all, Joy had spilled every little detail about their past dealings, and Yasmine knew she couldn't backtrack and report to Everett or Selena. Her betrayal was already a done deal.

It was a lose-lose situation.

Unlike Yasmine, Joy had to keep up a good image and persona around them. She couldn't afford to let that fall apart.

Joy stepped up, grabbing Yasmine by the collar, and slapped her again.

"What nonsense are you spouting?" Yasmine struggled.

Joy laughed at her naivety. "Do you think Selena is as clueless as you? She let you do your thing before, but now she's suddenly challenging and provoking you. From what I know about her, she wouldn't pull this without a reason."

"She must've picked up on something and wants to catch you. I told you to stay abroad to dodge trouble, but you rushed back at the first chance."

Yasmine felt a pang of worry at Joy's words but didn't fully buy it.

"Are you just trying to scare me? You just don't want me back, don't want me near Mr. Everett. Don't think I don't get it now, Joy. I've pieced some things together."

She shoved Joy's hand away.

"You're Selena's best friend, yet

you're working hard to break up Mr. Everett and Selena. There's only one reason a woman would go to such lengths!"

"And that's because you shamelessly have feelings for your best friend's husband!"
