Marrying the Man in the Dark

Chapter 1183

Chapter 1183 Caught Lucy Off Guard

Lucy's stomach lurched with a wave of nausea as the revelation hit her.

She shot up, squinting. "Hold on, I had no idea this was for you and Violet! If I'd known, there's no way I'd have taken the job."

With that, she stormed past Lennon, but he caught her arm. His gaze was cold. "You still love me."

Lucy's jaw dropped. "Are you kidding? Is it even dark yet? Are you sleepwalking or something? Lennon, are you crazy? Go see a shrink; don't stand here acting like a goof!"

He ignored her mocking tone, his voice calm and measured. "Listen, Lucy, if you're really over me, then we're basically strangers, right? Strangers can be hired, can't they?"

Lucy glared at him. "What are you even talking about?"

"You knew what went down between me and Violet," he said.

"Seriously? Why are you telling me this now? Trying to guilt-trip me into catering your fiancée's birthday party? You want me to watch you two be all lovey-dovey? Get lost! This is messed up!" She slapped his hand away, her anger bubbling

over.

Lennon narrowed his eyes slightly, a sly grin creeping onto his face. Even though Lucy's attitude was at rock bottom with him, he didn't seem mad. Actually, he felt relieved.noveldrama

This was her typical behavior, her inherent personality. However, it had been a long time since she had displayed such fiery emotion.

Lately, whenever he had free time, he'd secretly follow her - when he wasn't with Violet or helping Colin with work, of course.

Each time, he would observe her looking dejected, putting on a facade of happiness for Cherise while feeling undeniably lonely within. He would see her standing alone on the balcony at midnight, smoking a cigarette. Bottling up all her feelings, only to cry in secret.

Lennon knew he'd hurt Lucy way too much to even deserve to be worried or care about her anymore. He also knew Colin genuinely liked her; he was someone she could trust with her entire life.

So, seeing Lucy finally blow up and show some real emotion, Lennon's mood turned 180.

Lucy, of course, couldn't help but notice his sudden cheer. What the heck was he so happy about? His weird, good mood was seriously getting on her nerves.

She took a deep breath and glared at him. "What exactly do you want from me?"

Lennon sighed, looking at her calmly. "Let's sit down and talk, alright? "It seems a little too convenient that you just happened to land Violet's birthday party gig, you know?"

Lucy rolled her eyes and slumped back in her chair. "Yeah, no kidding, Sherlock!"

Lucy had her doubts, naturally. In a town like Yatesville, full of event planners, her company had even more qualified colleagues ready to take the job. Violet's job just magically landed on her desk?

Come on, even a dog wouldn't believe that was a coincidence.

"Hold on," Lennon interjected calmly. "I literally just found out about it myself. Violet only reminded me this morning."

Lucy scoffed, arms crossed. "Wow, fiancé of the year award, right there."

"Yep," Lennon shrugged, taking her sarcasm in stride. "Please hear me out. Since she went out of her way to get you to plan her party, there must be a reason, right? Lately, she's been questioning my feelings for her. She thinks I still have a thing for you, so maybe she's putting me to the test."
