Chapter 506
Chapter 506 Confrontation *Selena*
I shifted uncomfortably, acutely aware of the evidence of my arousal that surely lingered in the air. The flush that colored my cheeks intensified, a vivid display of my embarrassment at the thought of him discovering my desires.
"It is healed," he declared, finally releasing my finger with a slight pop.
The contrast between his cold personality and the soft whisper of his voice sent shivers down my spine. As my attention shifted from the overwhelming sensation he had ignited within me, I noticed that the pain was gone. My finger appeared as if it had never been burned, the skin restored and unblemished.
Taking charge effortlessly, Zander promptly switched off the gas burner. The ramen was ready. Trying to regain composure, I mustered the strength to speak.
"Umm... I will serve it quickly. Please have a seat," I offered, attempting to keep my voice steady, though it still trembled with the aftershocks of our intense encounter.
"No need. I am getting late for the patrol shift," he dismissed indifferently, his tone revealing no emotions. "And my hunger had also died."
His gaze lingered on me, laden with unspoken meaning, before he vanished from sight in a blink, disappearing with the speed that only an Alpha possessed.
I stared blankly, trying to decipher his words and the underlying message behind them. If he didn't need to eat, then why had he bothered me in the middle of the night? My gaze shifted to the clock, realizing that the shift had likely changed and another set of guards would have taken charge by now. I groaned in frustration, realizing that once again, I had missed the opportunity, all because of the unpredictable actions of the enigmatic Alpha King.
As my eyes landed on the untouched bowl of ramen, my stomach growled with hunger, a reminder of my own needs. Resigned to the situation, I decided not to let the delicious meal go to waste. After all, I was still hungry, and the ramen called out to me. With a sigh, I sat down at the counter, eagerly reaching for the bowl, ready to savor the warm and comforting sustenance it offered.

*Zander*
"Yes, Mother?! You called for me?" I asked as I entered my mother's room, my tone tinged with a hint of impatience. I had to come hurriedly, leaving urgent work unfinished because she kept sending me messages.
"Sit down, Zander," she commanded, gesturing toward the plush leather couch. "I am extremely disappointed that you couldn't even make time to see your own mother," my mother scolded, her voice filled with frustration and concern. "Mother, you just came back yesterday," I replied, rolling my eyes at her unnecessary whining.
"And you did not even show up at the time of my arrival. You arrived late in the evening, only to attend to your guests, and then after the party, you retired to your room. This morning, I did not find you at the breakfast table, and if I hadn't demanded to meet you, you wouldn't have shown up," her complaining continued with a hint of disappointment in her voice.
"Mother, I have other responsibilities to look after in my pack as the king. So please tell me why you sent me a request to return to the pack a week earlier only because you were coming?!" I inquired, authority seeping into my voice.
"Zander, you know your 30th birthday is approaching," she reminded me, her tone taking a serious turn.
"Tell me something new, Mother," I scoffed, my impatience getting the better of me.
"You still don't have an heir," she scowled, her words stinging me deeply.
Not again!
I groaned as I remembered. We had discussed this more than necessary, and I was not willing to repeat it.
"Mother, we have talked about this topic many times, and my reply is still the same: it will happen when the moon goddess wants it," I said curtly, trying to convey my resolve.
"No, Zander. It will happen when you want it to happen," my mother's voice became dull and heavy, mirroring the pain in her eyes. I knew why she was so persistent. The time was slipping away, and I was helpless.
I hated to admit it, but this was the reality I could no longer ignore. I had known this truth all my life and couldn't escape it. This was my fate. My thirtieth birthday. Until now, I had resolved to face whatever fate had in store for me. "Mother, the marriage is on the cards and..." I replied, avoiding direct eye contact, but she desperately cut me in.
"Zander, we are Werewolves, for the
Goddess's sake! You don't have to get married to get your mate pregnant my mother reasoned, her voice tinged with desperation. "You know how important it is for us to save our bloodline and have a child from you before..." Her voice trailed off as she swallowed, unable to verbalize the unspoken truth about my brutal fate.
Saved
"Mother, times have changed," I explained earnestly, my voice tinged with a hint of sadness. "Blair's children can carry forward our bloodline."
My mother's expression shifted from desperation to disbelief. She scolded me, her words filled with a mix of frustration and determination.
"Why are you so stubborn, Zander? After becoming an Alpha King, do you think you have become a god who can change the rules that we have followed for generations?" Her words cut through the air, filled with the weight of tradition and duty.
My mother's eyes softened momentarily, yet the determination in her voice remained steadfast. "Only your son can carry forward our lineage and bloodline, Zander. It is our duty to preserve our heritage."
As I sighed, a deep sense of frustration welled up within me. How could I make my mother understand that in modern times, it didn't matter if the child carrying forward our bloodline was a son or a daughter? The importance lay in their connection to our lineage and their worthiness to rule rather than their gender.
"I assure you, Mother," I stated firmly, my voice brimming with conviction. "The Moonglow pack shall never be left without an Alpha under my watch."
Her gaze met mine, and I could see a glimmer of hope beginning to flicker within her eyes.
"Zander, try to understand the value of time. You have already wasted years waiting for your mate, but you couldn't find her," she grimaced. "Your last marriage also didn't succeed in giving us an heir."
I winced as I remembered how Selena had to go through miscarriages. I knew it was my fault and could never forgive myself for that. She was wolfless, and carrying Alpha's pup was very difficult for her.
"But this time, I don't care if you have to mate with ten she-wolves. I just want to see your child," Mother added, making me growl in anger.
What did she think of me: a manwhore?! Mating with many she-wolves?! Never.
"What the hell are you saying, Mother? Are you even listening to yourself?" I frowned, struggling to comprehend her request.
The idea of mating with multiple she-wolves just to secure an heir felt absurd and disgusting and went against everything I believed in.
"I know what I am doing, Zander," my mother replied, her voice tinged with sadness, mirroring the pain in her eyes. "You are our Alpha and King, but as your mother, I have the right to worry about your family and the future of our pack. I promised your father that I would never let our lineage simply vanish from this Earth."
Shaking my head, I took a deep
breath, attempting to gather my thoughts and control my anger. Lyon growled in my head after hearing my mother. He was even crueler than me and wouldn't even respect my mother if I let him take over. However, it was true that my mother's emotional torture was becoming unbearable, which was why I had avoided seeing her since her return.
"By the way, why is your ex-mate here?" my mother asked suspiciously, now her attention shifting to Selena.
The mention of Selena's presence in
the pack intrigued me, and I, too, noveldrama
wanted to know why she had

returned after many years. That night we were alone, and I had provoked her, but as strong-willed as she was, she had remained silent about her true intentions and hadn't uttered a word about the truth. But something felt off about her sudden return, and I knew I had to uncover the secret. I couldn't let her leave the pack until I knew her motives.
"Are you sure this is the sole reason you want her to stay?" Lyon's mocking voice echoed in my mind, reminding me of his taunting presence ever since that unexpected kiss. I groaned inwardly, ignoring his jeers. "I want to make sure that my pack is safe," I answered through the mind link.
"But for that, you don't have to kiss her," he snorted.
"I didn't kiss her!" I shouted through the mind link, breathing heavily. My mother's eyes widened as she watched me in horror. I took a deep breath to calm myself.
"Putting your blame on me doesn't work, mighty Alpha King," he taunted me again, and I blocked him instantly.
Otherwise, I would have said something before my mother that I would regret later. I couldn't afford to engage in a mental battle with my wolf now.
