Chapter 69
Claim
The faint scent of tobacco on Xavier filled Lily's senses.
She looked up at him with panicked eyes as she pressed her elbow against his shoulder. She bit her lip silently.
"Are we still getting a divorce?" His breath surrounded her.
Her heart raced wildly.
That was what happened when one loved someone. One couldn't handle their kindness or indifference, nor could one handle the intoxicating closeness that made their heart pound. She took a deep breath. Her mind was still clear. "Yes." "Heh," His lips twisted into a cold smirk, his gaze iced over.
"Not willing to face reality, are you? Remember this-until it's over, you're still married, so act like it."noveldrama
Those words brought her back to her senses.
He must be referring to Terence, who had just rescued her.
Xavier could watch Lily be humiliated without lifting a finger, but he couldn't stand anyone else stepping in.
When he celebrated Sarah's birthday, took her to bed, and handed her a black card, had he considered being a "faithful husband" then?
Seeing her stubborn expression, he felt his anger flare.
He leaned down and kissed her fiercely. Their teeth clashed as the metallic taste of blood filled her mouth.
Lily whimpered as her breath was taken away.
She thought, "If he goes further like that night, I-"
But before her thought could finish, he suddenly let go of her lips.
She gasped for air, but before she could react, he pressed a hard kiss to her neck. It was sharp, tingling with a mix of pain and a hint of an itch. "Xavier, you're insane!" She used all her strength to push him away.
Caught off guard, he staggered back against the door with a thud.
His Adam's apple bobbed, and he let out a low grunt. His lips were stained with a hint of her blood.
The light above the foyer cast a soft glow over him, highlighting a lazy, carefree aura.
His hawk-like eyes met hers briefly before he turned and left.
Lily's heart was pounding as she caught her breath and walked into the bathroom.
In the mirror, she saw a bite mark on her lip and a dark hickey on her neck where he had kissed her.
The marks from last night hadn't faded; a turtleneck shirt barely hid them.
But now, with marks on her lips and neck, it was impossible to cover them all!
She brushed her lip with her tongue and winced in pain.
Ignoring what was happening in Xavier's mind, she went to her computer, inserted the USB drive, and reviewed its contents.
It contained not only footage from her dashcam but also a police statement.
After watching everything, she finally understood that her car accident had been caused by the husband of the deceased who had staged the incident-Benjamin Clark
The police had already arrested him, and he had confessed. He admitted that he only wanted to scare Lily, not realizing her driving skills were so poor that it almost turned fatal.
If she pressed charges, Benjamin would face prison.
Lily forwarded the evidence to Sylvester in hopes that it might help Hayden's case.
"Ms. Joyner, if you want Hayden to get out sooner, consider using this evidence to negotiate with the Clark family. If they admit to staging the accident, Hayden's name will be cleared, and you could drop the charges against Benjamin." The most crucial evidence had yet to be collected. Although they would eventually obtain it, negotiating now would be faster.
Lily didn't hesitate. She chose to take this evidence to negotiate with the Clark family immediately.
Hayden had been pampered from a young age. How long could he last in prison? And given that he was wrongfully accused, every day must feel like a year to him!
With nothing important scheduled except an appointment on Friday evening, she let Sylvester arrange a meeting with the Clark family to resolve the matter quickly. Sylvester soon scheduled it for 10:00 am on Saturday.
In his car, Xavier asked Timothy, "Has Lily been seeing Terence a lot lately?"
What do you think?
