Chapter 53
Chapter
53
Lily felt as if a bucket of cold water had been thrown over her, and the excitement and joy she had just felt vanished in an instant.
"Well, once the visitation is approved, please notify me."
That was her way of saying she wouldn't be asking Xavier directly, but rather following the formal process.
Understanding her intentions, Sylvester didn't press further. "Alright."
For the next few days, Lily deliberately avoided any topic related to Xavier.
She even uninstalled the news app on her phone as she did not want to see any news about him.
However, when Sylvester mentioned it, all the pent-up emotions she had been suppressing surged forward. They overwhelmed her.
If Sylvester hadn't brought it up, she might have forgotten about it altogether.
She still hadn't delivered the divorce agreement to Nova Group.
She wouldn't be going back to that home.
Maybe, only after delivering the divorce agreement to his office would Xavier believe she was serious.
If she went there directly, she might not even be able to see him.
After much thought, she prepared another copy of the divorce agreement and decided to send it by courier.
She spent the whole weekend at home, rejecting Maryanne's offer to go out, choosing instead to study.
After all, she was going to work at Lupier the next day.noveldrama
Interior design wasn't difficult, and although she hadn't worked on it for the past couple of years, she quickly picked up on the design trends. On Monday at 8:00 am, she arrived at Lupier on time.
The receptionist led her to a desk in the design department.
"Ms. Joyner, this is Ms. Cooper's workstation. You'll be learning under her from now on."
Nadia wasn't at her desk, but there was a photo on the work table.
She had short hair just above her ears, and she exuded a sharp and professional aura.
Nadia Cooper, who was 30 years old, had won numerous domestic design awards and was considered a rising star in her field.
Lily had heard of Nadia. She smiled at the receptionist and nodded politely. "Thank you. May I ask where my workstation is?"
"Ms. Cooper has arranged that. She went to the restroom, so please wait a moment."
The receptionist had other tasks to attend to, so she left Lily standing there.
Since designers usually started work at 8:30 am, Lily had arrived early, and the design department was almost empty except for a young woman around her age sitting at the far corner. The young woman glanced at Lily from time to time. Lily wasn't one to engage in small talk, so she simply smiled at the girl and waited in place.
As time passed, people trickled into the office.
Some greeted her warmly, some smiled and passed by, while others ignored her completely.
However, Nadia didn't show up.
Suddenly, there was a commotion at the entrance of the design department.
Nadia entered with a briefcase. Her face was dark and her eyes sliced through Lily as she marched straight into the design director's office.
"I've told you a hundred times. Stop assigning me someone who's just a placeholder!"
"I don't want her.."
"What, are you forcing me to quit? If I leave, the entire design department will collapse..."
Lily's lightly made-up face looked pale, but thankfully, the makeup made her appear less sickly.
The other people in the office exchanged looks of sympathy and schadenfreude, with their gazes focused on her.
She frowned slightly, not out of embarrassment, but because she feared losing the job she had just gotten.
After a while, it seemed the design director had said something to Nadia as she stopped making a fuss.
A few moments later, Nadia emerged.
She was still in a bad mood as she tossed her briefcase onto her desk. She casually pointed to a corner of the room and said, "Sit there."
"Okay." Lily didn't let Nadia's attitude bother her.
People who were truly capable always held themselves above others.
Someone like Nadia, whose dissatisfaction was written all over her face, was easier to understand than Xavier, who remained silent and mysterious. She was fine as long as she could stay.
Her desk was right next to the young woman's from earlier.
When the girl saw her sitting down, she smiled at her. Her smile wasn't filled with pity but with a sense of shared understanding.
Lily began to organize her desk. Once everything was in place, she opened her computer.
She wanted to find something to do but couldn't think of anything, so she decided to go find Nadia.
What do you think?
