Chapter 416
Due to her heart condition, Xyla's lips were stained an unhealthy shade of purple. Xavier was worried about her well-being, which was why he'd decided to keep the truth from her for the time being.
Xavier forced himself to relax his expression and said, "Just wait patiently in your room. The police will take care of everything."noveldrama
Xyla took a step forward and grabbed his sleeve. "Sarah... She'll definitely come back, right? She's the only family I have left in this world. Can you please help her?"
Tears streamed down her face, and she gasped for breath with every word she sobbed out. Her breathing started becoming more erratic.
Xavier did his best to comfort her. "Don't worry, Xyla. Sarah will come back. I'll help her."
"Really?"
Xyla's gasping didn't subside. She opened her mouth wide and sucked in deep breaths. She moved her hand from Xavier's sleeve to fist the fabric above his heart.
"I knew it. You wouldn't abandon Sarah..."
Her knees buckled, and she collapsed like a ragdoll to the ground. Xavier quickly carried her to the nurses' station. He yelled for a doctor to help her.
The peaceful atmosphere of the hospital was instantly thrown into chaos.
Lily's heart was troubled when she heard Xavier's promise to Xyla to help Sarah. Her emotions turned even more turbulent after hearing Xavier's footsteps fading into the distance as he carried Xyla away.
Lily had been standing in the ward. Xavier's voice had carried clearly into the room despite the door separating them.
She stood in place for a few seconds before returning to the bed. She lay down and closed her eyes, unable to ignore how her eyes stung beneath her lids.
The doctor gave Xyla emergency treatment. Her life was saved thanks to the prompt actions of the doctor.
"Mr. Fulton, Ms. Lynde's condition isn't looking too good. You still haven't found a heart donor for her?"
The doctor was Xyla's personal physician, Darren Newman. Although it was hard to come by a person with Rh-negative blood type, Xavier should have found someone who matched the criteria by now, considering his status.
Xavier also found it odd that such a person hadn't been found. He could only treat it as Xyla being exceptionally unlucky.
"How's her condition?" he asked.
Darren hesitated for a moment. His voice was soft when he explained, "If we administer the best medicine to her, she can still hold on until the near future. But she cannot undergo any stress."
"What would happen to her if she gets stressed out?" Xavier questioned further, wanting a clear picture of Xyla's limits.
"If the stress is too great, she might..."
Darren did a slicing motion over his throat. His message was clear.
Xavier nodded in understanding. "Look after her. Get a professional caretaker to watch over her. Don't allow anyone to disturb her rest."
Xavier left after giving his orders to the doctor. He pulled his phone out and called Timothy after exiting Xyla's ward.
"Block all the rumors about Sarah on the web. Get the police to close the case fast and discreetly. No public conferences."
Xavier wasn't helping Sarah for Xyla's sake. Sarah still needed to pay for what she had done. But if he blocked off the news from the public, Xyla would have no idea what was going on.
After disconnecting the call, Xavier returned to Lily's ward. There was another person in the room. It was Hayden, and he had a few thermal food containers with him. He had rushed over to the hospital.
"Didn't I say that you didn't have to come?" Lily chided as she sat up again.
She watched Hayden set up a small table, looking extremely busy as he flitted about the room. Hayden shot her a gri The wound on his face wasn't fully healed, but he looked much better after showering and changing into a new set of clothes.
"How can I not come? You're misunderstanding things. Don't think that Mom and
the others will just abandon you to stay in the hospital by yourself.
"Look, Mom made all these dishes herself for your dinner. She even boiled some soup for you. She asked me to bring it over while it's still hot, and she wants me to stay the night to take care of you too."

There were four different dishes and a small pot of soup. They were all Lily's favorites. The delicious smell of the food permeated the room, covering up the lingering scent disinfectant. Lily couldn't bear to expose Hayden's well-meaning lie, not after seeing how he bustled about.
Hazel was a terrible cook. The only dishes she knew how to prepare were the
ones that Bobby and Hayden loved.
What do you think?
