Chapter 39
Chapter

The morning light was harsh. It filled the entire ward with a blinding, golden light.
Xavier stared with utter concern at Sarah, who sat on the hospital bed. "Work isn't important."
It seemed that Sarah mattered more to him than work.
Lily's hands rested on her thighs. She couldn't help but clench her fists and grab the hem of her shirt so tightly that her fingertips turned white. Her already sickly countenance worsened. "Xavie-"Maryanne wanted to speak up. However, Lily immediately grabbed Maryanne's hand and shook her head. "Let's go."
Lily wasn't good with confrontations and couldn't move around now. There was no telling if Xavier would involve the Devereux family if Maryanne started an argument and fought on Lily's behalf.
Plus, Xavier only ignored Lily's emergency calls because he kept Sarah company last night while Sarah was getting checked up. Wasn't that better than Lily's assumptions from yesterday, when she thought Xavier and Sarah were sleeping together? Maryanne refused to let this slide, so she glared daggers at the couple in the VIP hospital ward.
Sarah removed the gauze around her wrist. Her wrist was slightly red underneath. Then, she rotated her arm to show it to Xavier. "See? I'm genuinely fine."
She got off the bed, approached Xavier, and tugged at Xavier's shirt while swaying in place. "Please let me get discharged. I really don't like staying here." Xavier grabbed Sarah's wrist and inspected it in detail before helplessly saying, "Alright,"
A bright smile spread across Sarah's face as she grabbed Xavier's arm and led him out the door. The two had barely taken a few steps before they froze. Through the slightly opened door, Sarah's and Xavier's eyes happened to meet Lily's and Maryanne's. Lily wanted to urge Maryanne to leave with her, but she refused to. Yet, she couldn't help but stare at Xavier. She noted how intimate he was with Sarah. She kept gawking at the two and couldn't bring herself to speak.
That said, once her indifferent gaze locked onto Xavier's eyes, she pretended to be calm and looked away. "Let's go, Maryanne."
Maryanne raised her middle finger at Xavier before wheeling Lily out of there.
Sarah's confused voice rang out behind them. "Xavier, isn't that your housekeeper? That other woman seems a little familiar, too..."

A frown made its way onto Xavier's chiseled face after he saw the noticeably jarring gauze wrapped around Lily's forehead. Then, he realized something and took his phone out of his pocket. Numerous unanswered call notifications showed on his phone, which had been on silent mode. Most of the calls were from Lily.
He wondered what had happened last night. While he was cold and unfair to his wife, he wasn't heartless. Even he agreed it was wrong that he had no idea his wife had been hospitalized. Sarah subtly examined the former's expression before cautiously asking, "Why aren't you speaking, Xavier? Could you help me move into my new place after your meeting?"
"Have Timothy arrange for your move." Xavier rejected her request. He did so because he felt frustrated after seeing Lily's expression earlier.
Xavier then took a cigarette from his pocket and placed it between his lips. "Let's go."
Sarah's heart sank since she didn't get to have her way. Even so, she maintained a smile like always. She caught up to Xavier and said, "That makes sense. You're too busy, after all. I'll just have Mr. Synder help me with the moving process. You can just visit me after I organize the place..."
Xavier didn't respond to her anymore. He merely smoked while taking broad strides out the door.
Upon reaching the Maybach in the car park, he opened the door for Sarah.noveldrama
Sarah felt flattered. She got into the car, took a small mirror and lipstick from her bag, and touched up her lipstick. She only realized Xavier hadn't gotten into the car with her halfway through fixing her face.
Xavier was speaking with someone on the phone while standing in front of the car. His veins bulged noticeably down his wrist as he held his phone. His tightly clenched jaw was visible from his side profile.
What do you think?
