CEO's Tears Over Pregnancy Test Discovery

Chapter 1918

Caleb smirked, amusement flickering in his eyes.

Vera knew he was teasing her.

But the truth was, when Caleb had passed out drunk, she was the only one around. Of course, she had to stay.

If she had left and something happened to him, it would have been on her.

And besides, as Caleb had pointed out, she was now his "girlfriend" in name. If she had abandoned him, what would people think?

"You never know what can happen in this world," Vera said matter-of-factly. "At the time, staying was my only option. But let's drop it. For now, let's get breakfast. My treat."

Caleb didn't argue. "Alright."

Vera led him to a small breakfast cafe nearby.

"This place makes amazing beef pasta," she recommended. "You should give them a try."noveldrama

"You come here often?" Caleb asked, glancing around.

The cafe was close to the club but far from the Mason estate. It wasn't the kind of place she would end up at randomly.

Vera lowered her gaze slightly. "Yeah... I used to come here with a friend."

Caleb noticed the shift in her mood. She seemed distant, lost in thought. He didn't press further.

But just as they were about to order, a man suddenly stormed toward them.

"Vera, so this is why you broke up with me?"

The sharp accusation made Vera's stomach tighten.

She looked up, and the moment she saw him, a wave of emotions crashed over her. Her nose stung, her chest tightened.

Caleb shot her a look, a silent question in his eyes.

Vera quickly composed herself and turned to the man. "Let's talk outside. Don't cause scene here."

"Oh, so now you care about

disturbing the restaurant?" The man let out a sharp laugh, his voice laced with bitterness. "No, Vera. You don't care about the owner. You just don't want to make your new mam uncomfortable."

His words carried resentment, but his eyes burned with something darker.

Vera exhaled slowly, steadying herself. If life had been easy, if things had gone the way she had wanted, she wouldn't have had to leave behind the people and things that mattered to her.

"It's not about treating you badly," she said, her voice calm but firm "Love and relationships should be mutual. If I don't want to be with you anymore, I have every right to end it."

The man grabbed her by the shoulders, his grip tight. "But I love you. I've worked so hard to build a future

for us. And you still left me! Is family status really that important?"

In his mind, Vera had only left him for a more powerful marriage arrangement.

But for Vera, this was a compromise with reality.

Even if her relationship with Caleb was just for show, she couldn't let Mr. Smith suspect anything.

However, Vera hadn't expected that the man she had once loved, the person she had given her heart to, had been lying to her all along.

Because just then, his phone rang and she saw the name flash across the screen-"Baby."

A term of endearment.

The flicker of guilt in his eyes told her everything she needed to know.

"Sam," Vera said, her voice turning ice-cold. "This is what you call love?"

Sam Jordan had never truly cared about her.

He had only been after what she could offer.

Even now, after she'd lost everything, he still saw her as an opportunity-because even a fallen Mason was worth something.

For a moment, he looked uneasy, as if he'd been caught off guard. But then, as if deciding there was nothing left to lose, his expression hardened.

"This wouldn't have happened if you hadn't dumped me first!" he snapped. "Vera, you're the only one I've ever loved. I was just trying to get a reaction out of you!"
