Chapter 31
Jantes furrowed her brows when she saw that Simon was calling
On such a joy day, the mere mention of his name stirred a thomy pain in her chest that pierced her to the
core
Simon had guessed it right. She hadn't entirely moved oil-
But her love for him had already turned cold. Faint traces of resentment were beginning to take root.
The lingering ache the felt when she saw him wasn't affection-it was the backlash of severed emotions. No one could let go that quickly, but she had made up her mind. She wouldn't take a single step back toward Simon
Her finger hovered over the decline button before she tapped it decisively. She no longer allowed herself in imagine any other outcome between them.
Tears welled up in her eyes, spilling over as laughter and applause filled the rooms for the celebrations.
Tonight marked her first day officially joining Prosper Silich Group. It was also the night she completely let go of Simon.
His message popped up during the celebration
"Janice, I was wrong. Please allow me to explain. I've been by your side from the very beginning, from the days when you were just a nobody until now. I can't believe you've forgotten so quick. You're so amazing Let's move forward together, okay?
But to Janice, his apology felt insincere, tainted with selfish intent. His regret stemmed not from love but from greed. He wanted her back, not as an equal, but as someone who could still work tirelessly for his benefit
Would he have apologized if she hadn't told him earlier that she was the one who had crocheted the highly acclaimed Desert Oasis?
Knowing Simon, he wouldn't have bothered. To Simon, she would always come second to his interests. The tears that fell were heavy, carrying seven years of heartbreak and disappointment.
As the tears slid off her chin and struck the edge of the dining table, the sight caughtEdward's go. He didn't understand why people would cry over something as trivial as relationshipn
If two people were compatible, they should stay together. If not, they should part ways. What was there to cry about?
As the wine glass came into view, Janice lifted her pare
Het lower Lashes still held a shimmering tear, but her lips curved into a faint smile
Edward's posture, as he held the glass, was as if he had stepped out of a painting only, his presence was Lar too imposing for this mundane world.
Thank you, Mr. Moore," Janice said, her voice steady despite her emotions,
rowed replied casually. "If you want to cry, remember to find someplace private. As the coof Prosper Stitch Group, you wouldn't want to make a spectacle of yourself"
Janice quickly wiped away her tears to avoid any criticism from her new boss.
But just as she relaxed, he added nonchalantly, “Next time, cry in my office. The soundproofing there is excellent. You can cry as much as you
Janice was utterly speechless by his words.
The alcohol she had been drinking was beginning to muddle her thoughts, but she managed to say, “That doesn't seem appropriate, does it?"
"What's inappropriate about it? just keep things to yourself. If your ex-boyfriend sees this, he might think you're still hung up on him," Edward replied.
Janice's band slammed against the table, her voice louder than intended. "I'm not! Not even a little!"
Her sudden slan drew everyone's attention.noveldrama
Did Janice just star the table in front of Edward?
But what shocked them even more was Edward's reaction, or lack of it. Instead of being annoyed, he merely glanced at Janice and smiled Caintly, as if amused.
What was actually going on?
Marida quickly signaled for everyone to mind their own business and stop staring
Edward's voice carried a trace of amusement upon janice's denial. "Oh? Is that so?"
"Of course!" Janice's head felt heavier as the alcohol began to take full effect, but she wasn't drunk enough to lose all serve.
"How can you prove?" Edward asked
"L" Janice faltered, unsure of what to say
Edward's movements were relined, his demeanor almost scholarly as he took another sip. "Should dock your pay?"
Janice blinked in confusion before blurting out, “Mr. Moore, has anyone ever told you that you have the air of a villain but the manners of a gentleman?
I was such a strange contradiction. But oddly enough, Edward looked incredibly attractive.
Edward glanced at her and said, "Yes
“allye else has thesaur thought?” janke asked again.
Janice stared at Lam, wide-ayed, "Just me?"
He gave her a sidelong look, lis totieven. "You're die only one bold enough to say it to my face."
She quickly chested her throat and raised his glass, “Fin sorry, Mr. Moore! I didn't mean any offennel"
The celebration continued late into the evening, the laughter and charter carrying on sold half past ten, by the, the gun began to trickle out one by one,
