Chapter 142
At the restaurant they usually frequented, Edward was enjoying his meal while simultaneously overseeing the management team.
With large financial transfers, bulk materials being sourced, and constant movement within their network, there was no shortage of tasks for the team to manage.
All of a sudden, there was a knock at the door.
"Come in."
Harrison stepped in. "Mr. Moore, Simon is here looking for you."
Edward's two cars were well-known in Greenfield City, and it didn't take long for the paparazzi to trace his whereabouts. Naturally, Simon managed to track him down as well.
Janice briefly glanced at Edward.
He placed his cutlery down. "Let him in."
After taking a sip of water, Edward turned his gaze toward Janice.
"Janice."
"Yes?"
"I promised you full freedom to take commercial revenge on Refined Threads Co.," Edward said, standing up and moving to the seat beside her. "Starting today."
As soon as the words left his mouth, Janice's heart skipped a beat. But before she could react, the door to the private room creaked open.
What followed caught her off guard.
Simon stepped in while holding Amelia by the collar. Amelia's face was smeared with dried blood, her eyes were swollen from tears, and dark purple bruises surrounded her eye sockets. Had she been beaten?
Janice slowly set her cutlery down.noveldrama
As Simon entered, his eyes immediately locked on Edward and Janice sitting together at the table. A wave of jealousy surged through him, but he didn't allow himself to dwell on it.
He gasped for breath and gritted his teeth as he forced himself to lower his head. "Mr. Moore, I'll explain Amelia's reckless behavior. But I want to make it clear that I had no involvement in this-it has nothing to do with me."
What had happened?
Janice wasn't sure what had transpired between them, but she could feel Edward's anger simmering just beneath the surface. He was masking it well, but the tension was unmistakable.
Edward rested his arm on the armrest, his gaze sweeping over the disheveled Amelia.
Simon said through clenched teeth, "Mr. Moore, please show mercy and give Refined Threads Co. a chance."
In the past, Edward might have been inclined to grant such a request.
But now...
"Whether there's a way out depends on..." Edward paused, tilting his chin toward Amelia. "...whether she has already reached a dead end."
A look of fear flashed across Amelia's face. "Mr. Moore, aren't you worried about going to prison?"
"Shut up!" Simon barked.
Without another word, he roughly pushed Amelia out of the room. "Mr. Moore, if she's out of the picture, will Refined Threads Co. finally get a breather?"
Edward gave a knowing smile but remained silent.
Simon clenched his fists, his eyes lingering on Amelia by the door. After a moment, he turned and walked out.
Janice watched it all unfold with a crystal clear understanding of Simon's
intentions-the cold-hearted man was prepared to cut Amelia loose. As expected, it didn't take long.
Less than half an hour later,
Harrison entered with an update.
"Simon has already contacted every domestic supplier of HIV-prevention medication and blacklisted Amelia. He has even liquidated his car and a third of his stocks to make t happen."
Now that was a serious investment.
Janice grew more curious. "How did he offend you?"
"He didn't offend me," Edward replied as he stood up. "But offending you is the
same as offending me."
Had he really offended her?
It wasn't until later that Harrison quietly explained the situation. He revealed that Amelia had gone to Robert and spread harmful rumors about her, which had ultimately pushed Edward to his breaking point.
After hearing the full story, Janice stayed silent for a while. Why had Edward gone to such lengths for
her? Though she didn't say it outnet
loud, Janice wasn't naive and could roughly guess the reason behind it.
"Edward, you-"
"Didn't you promise you'd cook for me when I came back?" Edward cut in. Janice blinked in surprise. "Ah, yes. How about tomorrow?"
"At your place or mine?"
"My brother is at home, so let's go to yours," Janice suggested.
"Alright, see you tomorrow."
...
At 3:30 am, Simon was preparing to leave. Before he did, he slapped Amelia
twice in a fit of frustration while spewing a stream of harsh, cruel words.
What do you think?
