Chapter 916
"Seb, thank you for helping me take care of my baby. I don't know how to thank you enough."
"Don't stand on ceremony with me. I should be doing this in the first place as the father of the child."
Rosalie's face stiffened at his words.
Noticing Rosalie's silence, Sebastian went on, "Rose, are you still thinking about Theodore? Do you still want him to be the father of your child?"
Rosalie said, "Seb, things between Theo and I are over. Don't worry about us. I'll do what I promised you. I only brought up divorce before because I was too sad. I won't bring it up again in the future."
"It's alright, Rose. I'm not blaming you. I fully understand how you feel."
"Let's leave it as it is for now, Seb. We'll talk more after I get back. I'm hanging up."
"Alright, Rose. Goodbye."
Both of them hung up.
Vincent took a mouthful of alcohol and turned to glance at Rosalie, who was spacing out with both hands resting on the kitchen counter.
Vincent arched a brow as he leaned back casually on the couch.
"You sound very polite talking to your husband. Isn't it his job to take care of your child? Unless the child isn't his."
Vincent hit the nail on the head. He was an observant man, and nothing escaped his eye.
Rosalie smiled weakly. "The child is my ex-husband's."
"Is that so?" Vincent asked. "How old is your child?"
"Almost three months."
Vincent's brows furrowed at Rosalie's answer.
"That means you were carrying your ex-husband's child when you married your current husband?"
"This is my personal affair." Rosalie's voice turned cold.
Her relationship with Sebastian was very complicated and unlike that of a typical husband and wife. She had no obligation to explain things to outsiders and she intended to leave right after preparing this meal for him.
Rosalie picked up a knife and started chopping up some vegetables.
The blade hit the chopping board, making loud knocking sounds.
Vincent's fingers tapped lightly against the couch as he asked lazily, "What did your ex-husband do? To make you divorce him and marry another man despite being o pregnant."
Rosalie ignored him.
Vincent continued asking, "Did he hit you?"
Rosalie continued ignoring him.
Vincent asked again, "Have an affair?"
Rosalie put down the knife. "Why do you think it must be my ex-husband who did something that caused our divorce? What if I was the one who had been unfaithful?"
"Because I'm a man and I
understand other men. Few are
decent and most have eyes that stray. They don't treasure what they have and only start regretting it when they lose it."
Vincent's tone was cold, a sardonic smirk on his face.
"A woman like you will never be unfaithful. You'll only end up hurt."
People who were too gentle and kind were usually on the receiving end of hurt and pain. They would end up leaving with their hearts broken,
never daring to turn back again.
Rosalie picked up the knife again and went back to chopping vegetables.
After lunch was done, Rosalie placed all the dishes on the dining table.
She prepared dishes she was most confident in.
She wasn't familiar with the cuisine in Melrine and didn't enjoy it herself. Despite being in Melrine, she favored her local cuisine and ate more of that. The dishes on the table didn't look mouth-watering, but they at least looked appetizing enough. They smelled good too, just like a heartwarming home-cooked meal.
Vincent hadn't felt like this for a long time. Life had been cold and lifeless without any signs of excitement.© 2024 Nôv/el/Dram/a.Org.
"Thank you. Let's eat," Vincent said as he pulled out a chair and sat down on it.
Rosalie sat opposite him. "You look much better now."
Vincent recovered way faster than she expected. Seems like his fitness level was different from hers indeed.
"Did you talk to me in the middle of the night?"
Vincent took a bite of the food and looked up at her.
